One of Frida Kahlo's iconic works is "Las dos Fridas," a double self-portrait painted in oil and completed in 1939. It was the year the artist divorced Mexican muralist Diego Rivera.
This work, which is currently in the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City, reflects the duality of the artist at that time in her life. Frida on the right side, strong and independent, dressed in a simple Mexican dress in the Tehuano style. ; and Frida on the left side, with great suffering, dressed in a white European-style dress.
